What is life like for married women with PMS?
Married women with PMS experience considerable distress and challenges in their relationships. Many report feeling neglected or misunderstood by their partners.
What they did
Researchers conducted open interviews with 10 married women who had been diagnosed with PMS by a gynecologist. The women were aged 20-50 and had been married for at least 2 years. Researchers analyzed the interviews to find common themes.
What they found
Four main themes emerged: the heavy impact of PMS on daily life, how marriage can both help and harm women, disruption in relationships, and strategies women used to cope.
What it means for you
This qualitative study shows that PMS significantly impacts married relationships and daily functioning for these women. However, only 10 women were interviewed, so we cannot be sure these experiences apply to all married women with PMS.
