Is worry about climate change linked to worse PMS symptoms?
Higher climate change anxiety was associated with worse PMS symptoms. Climate anxiety is just one of many factors affecting PMS severity.
What they did
Surveyed 1035 young women in Türkiye about their worry regarding climate change and their PMS symptoms, then looked for connections between anxiety levels and symptom severity.
What they found
PMS was present in 60.8% of the women. Women with higher climate change anxiety had worse PMS symptoms. Older age and greater daily life interference from menstruation were also associated with higher climate anxiety.
What it means for you
Worry about climate change may act as a psychological stress that worsens PMS symptoms. However, climate anxiety is just one of many factors affecting PMS severity. The study included only young women in Türkiye, so results may not apply to other ages and countries.
