Non-randomised trial, 2018

Does teaching teenagers about PMS with booklets or leaflets increase their knowledge?

Yes, both methods significantly increased knowledge (p=0.001 for each), with booklet education more effective than leaflets (p=0.002).

Early or limited evidence 30 adolescents (10-19 years) at Islamic junior high school in Bontang, Indonesia

What they did

Quasi-experimental study with 30 junior high school students divided into two groups: one received health education via booklet and the other via leaflet. Knowledge was measured before and after.

What they found

Both booklet (p=0.001) and leaflet (p=0.001) education significantly increased knowledge about PMS. The booklet was more effective than the leaflet (p=0.002).

What it means for you

Simple printed information can help teenagers learn about PMS. Booklets work better than single-page leaflets for teaching. The study measured knowledge gain, not symptom reduction.
