Survey study, 2025

Does a new Turkish questionnaire work well to screen for PMDD?

Yes, in this study the questionnaire showed strong reliability and was very good at telling apart people with and without PMDD.

Early or limited evidence 336 women in Turkiye who completed an online questionnaire

What they did

Researchers translated and tested a PMDD screening questionnaire, the CTDP-TR, for Turkish speakers. 336 women filled out an online survey that included this new tool plus existing questionnaires for depression (PHQ-9), anxiety (GAD-7), and premenstrual symptoms (PSST), so the researchers could check how well the new tool matched up.

What they found

The questionnaire had a two-factor structure with acceptable fit, excellent internal consistency (alpha = 0.89), and a strong link with the existing PSST tool (r = 0.715). It was excellent at telling apart people with PMDD from those without (AUC = 0.943), and scores were also linked to depression (r = 0.547) and anxiety (r = 0.510) scores. 43.5% of participants screened positive for PMDD.

What it means for you

This suggests the Turkish CTDP-TR is a solid screening tool that could help identify PMDD earlier and guide people toward further care. It is meant for screening only, not a full diagnosis, and the study relied on an online self-report survey in one country with no clinical interviews to confirm who truly had PMDD.
