Lab study, 2024
Does the yoga pose Baddha Konasana help PMDD?
No clear difference. Although symptoms decreased somewhat from the first to the second menstrual cycle, the improvement was not large enough to confirm that the yoga pose helps.
What they did
55 women with PMDD performed the yoga pose Baddha Konasana every day for 8 weeks. Researchers measured the severity of physical and psychological symptoms during two consecutive luteal phases (the time before menstruation) using standard symptom rating scales.
What they found
Symptom severity scores decreased from the first luteal phase to the second, but the decrease was not large enough to be confident it resulted from the yoga practice.
What it means for you
This study did not find clear evidence that Baddha Konasana helps PMDD symptoms. Symptoms did get slightly better, but the change was too small to be sure it's a real effect. More research would be needed. The study tested only one yoga pose, so we don't know if other practices might work better.
