Does lasmiditan help with migraines around menstruation?

Lasmiditan 200 mg helped more women achieve migraine pain freedom compared to placebo. At 2 hours, 33.6% of women taking the 200 mg dose had pain relief.

Moderate study design 303 women from two clinical trials treating perimenstrual migraine attacks

What they did

This was a pooled analysis of two randomized controlled trials (MONONOFU and CENTURION). A total of 303 women took a single dose of lasmiditan (50 mg, 100 mg, or 200 mg) or placebo and were checked for migraine pain relief up to 48 hours later.

What they found

More patients achieved migraine pain freedom with lasmiditan 200 mg versus placebo at all time points. At 2 hours, 33.6% of the 200 mg group had pain freedom compared to placebo. The 100 mg and 50 mg doses were also tested but 200 mg was the most effective.

What it means for you

Lasmiditan 200 mg appears to be a useful treatment for migraines that occur around menstruation. This analysis combined data from two trials so the evidence is reasonably strong, but it is a post-hoc analysis rather than a study designed specifically for perimenstrual migraine.
