Does regular yoga help PMS symptoms, pain, and quality of life?

Regular yoga practice appears to improve PMS symptoms, pain, and quality of life in women with PMS. This is based on a controlled study with 30 women in each group.

Moderate study design 60 women with PMS (30 in yoga group, 30 in control group), average age 31 years

What they did

Researchers randomly assigned 60 women with PMS to either a long-term, regular yoga practice group (30 women) or a control group (30 women). The study was single-blinded, meaning the women knew whether they were doing yoga, but the researchers measuring outcomes did not know.

What they found

Long-term and regular yoga practice led to improvements in PMS symptoms, quality of life, and pain levels compared to the control group.

What it means for you

Yoga may help women with PMS feel better, reduce pain, and improve quality of life. The main limitation is the small sample size (30 women per group) and the single-blinded design, which may have allowed some bias since women knew whether they were doing yoga.
